Painting with Calipari

How I spent Sunday, and today once I get going again:

Room 09 002

I came home and showed the shade to my Dad, he said, "It's.....grey." As if the grey-ness of it was a mistake.

No mistake.

My thoughts on grey: it's hipper than the other neutral colors (beige, tan, brown), and it will be a good base for artwork.

And it's not hot pink or turquoise, and since I don't plan on living here forever, and my Mom just got her x-ray license for Florida (no joke...I'm still shocked), it should be an acceptable sell-able shade, no?

Anyways, hopefully I'll make good progress on it today...if I can stop refreshing the internet for Calipari news. I couldn't stand Gillispie, so this is thrilling.

Auntie Apes

Riley Paige is here 002

I told her to smile, then I said her smile was too cheesy. This is the face I got:
Riley Paige is here 006

Riley Paige is here 015

Milk mustache:
Riley Paige is here 028

Riley Paige is here 017

She's cute. And quiet. A very well behaved, sleepy baby. I can't wait to show her the world.

Circus Dog

You've got Mommy Blogs, and then you've got Puppy-Mommy Blogs.

Guess which one I am?

Here is Molly licking from a plate WHILE STANDING ON HER HIND LEGS. I know, I know, not the first dog to do it. But she can walk on them, for a really long time.

That's skill, people. Real skill.

It's also me, avoiding homework on a rainy Wednesday. But whatever.

Thought Bubbles

Lately I've felt a little awkward about blogging. Even though I've had things to say.

I type them up and then let them languish in my draft box. Or I post them, only to pull them off the site a little while later.

I don't know why.

Paragraphs just aren't appealing to me right now.

Yesterday I went to Home Depot and bought a garden pond kit. A 60 gallon kit with a pump and filter. It retailed for $89 at one time. I paid $28 for it. Really, how could I pass it up? Where to put it is the next question. We're leaning towards expanding the bird retreat with it.

The weather is fantastic. Perfect for my mental state! There are not enough words to express how much I love spring and summer.

Tomorrow I have classes again. And an advising conference. A paper due. I'm not looking forward to any of it. I said I was going to read regular books and do all of these glorious things on spring break. I did none of it. Just sat around in my pajamas all day long. Not a bad set up in the grand scheme of things I suppose.

The death of Natasha Richardson is still bothering me. I just can't seem to grasp how her family is dealing with it right now. One minute she's fine and the next minute she's brain dead?! Can you imagine? But who hasn't fallen, hit their head, and thought they were perfectly fine? Crazy stuff.

My best couponing deals this weekend were free quaker rice cakes and 99 cent boxes of really good granola bars.

I still haven't decided what to do about my camera situation. But trust me, the fact that I had one and then sent it back is as odd to me as it must sound to you all. I know it's weird.

Good news: my car got a new battery last week! Bad news: it of course still has a MAJOR under the hood/engine problem. Still not sure how that's going to work out. Don't really care anymore to be honest.

And finally: what is the purpose of a 5 year reunion? Especially in the age of Facebook? Chances are I already know what you're doing with your life, whether you're still in school, where you work, if you're married, what your children look like if you have any. So what? But maybe I'm just cynical.

What I Know

I'm the girl who reads articles about healthy options and bad options for lunches, and gets a craving for the bad option.

I'm really sensitive.

I'm pretty indecisive most of the time.

Sometimes I feel like a gigantic loser.

I love to laugh.

I'm the kind of person who could find sympathy for a serial killer, as crazy as that sounds. I guess I just think that deep down there is good in us all, but I wonder what happens to make people so sinister.

I really enjoy tomatoes. And even though I read an article about winter tomatoes and slavery I keep buying them. It makes me kinda feel guilty.

Even though I love saving money at the grocery store, I can still...from time to time...go spend $50 in one trip on fruit and veggies and snacks (as evidenced last night).

I hate the new Facebook.

I really love following celebrities on Twitter.

My wisdom teeth have really begun to hurt lately, but I refuse to get them pulled.

Grey's Anatomy has me worried about skin cancer. I'm now looking at every mole and sun spot suspiciously.

Just to elaborate on that last point: I'm an internet-hypochondriac.

I'd love to adopt another cat...if I weren't already taking care of three.

For the first time since I started remembering things, UK is not in the NCAA Tournament...therefore this 'March Madness' everyone speaks of is not something I'm aware exists.

I miss Tubby Smith.

Nikon d60: An Explanation

So if you follow me on Twitter you know that today I got a Nikon d60.

Really. What else do I have to say?

Except I was not blatantly copying or trying to steal the thunder of anyone else who may have gotten a Nikon for their March birthday as well. *cough cough* I swear! It was all in the works before I knew!! And my mother MADE me do it!

This has been paining me.

I'm silly.

So anyways. I got one. And it's a little scary. I'd say this camera is equal parts terrifying and cool. Like too cool for me to touch...almost.

I have no idea what I'm doing yet...basically. But here's some pictures anyway.

So why the d60? Good question. The truth? I just gave up and bought it. I found a super great deal on it, it was under the $400 budget I was playing around with...and I pulled the trigger (or uh..purchase button) and got it. Did you know there is a REALLY GOOD REASON not to buy any camera on the market?? I do...because I've read that many reviews!! And they all made my head hurt.

Why Nikon over Canon? I like bright photos and Nikon's straight out the camera stuff always seems to pop just a little bit more.

Things I've learned in the few hours I've had it:

Jack (the Lab) is a contrary old man and an awful model. Chuck, he is not.

Photos of the Day

Krystal is days away from delivering. She goes to the doctor on Thursday and if they don't do anything then...Saturday is the magic date for induction.

Krystal, days before delivery

She is surprisingly calm. I guess that happens. I have a hunch I'd be a hot mess though. So yay her!

My Jon.

Jonathan

Just because.

Guilty Pleasure

Times I'm least likely to blog: when I have nothing to do.
Times I'm most likely to blog: when I have homework to do or a paper to write.

Guess which one of those tonight is!?

It's also the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars. As I've said before: I love that stupid show. I don't know why. But I'm near the end of the episode and I've already decided my faves:

Lacey and Steve-O

Olympic Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas

Lovely, the both of them, for completely different reasons. (Obviously.) I'm looking forward to more.

Things that make me happy...

My 82 year old grandmother is a total Obama fangirl. I'm not sure she'd know what the word 'fangirl' even meant, but the fact that she (and all of her children) are more progressive than several of my cousins brings me great joy. The Obama lovefest we all had on the phone tonight was awesome. I love my family. The older half of it anyway.

My puppies. I told Molly tonight that she was so cute I wanted to blend her up and eat her. It was disturbing. And true.

Anticipating the arrival of Riley Paige. I'm planning to be at the hospital with bells on and a million cameras in hand. Although if I'm threatening to blend up the dog b/c of her cuteness, I'm not entirely sure I should be trusted around babies.

(sidenote: Riley is going to be the first baby I've held in years. It's totally like riding a bike...right? Otherwise I should probably read a book or something.)

------------------------------------

So yeah, that's about it for now.

P.S. Happy Birthday Mrs. Sartin! I would say I hope it's a good one, but since I know you're playing with a sweet little camera I know I don't have to. :D

On Turning 23

Vera Bradley has the most adorable little flip flops this season. I'm at the library right now so I can't snip the pic of them, but here is the LINK. I swore I wasn't going to spend too much on them this year, but I almost can't resist. So preppy, fresh and cute!

Yesterday was the big birthday. Thanks to all who sent messages, left wall posts on Facebook or gave shout outs on blogs and Twitter. I adore you all. And everyday you affirm for me why the internet can be an awesome place.

As mentioned I'm at the library so I can't upload pics. So just imagine. I got a white ice cream cake from DQ with red roses. It was cute, but more importantly it was delicious. And the girl who wrote on it asked me how to spell APRIL, which pretty much made me giggle for the remainder of the day.

My parentals wrote me a check for $200, way more than I was expecting. We don't go overboard for birthdays, they've always given $50-$100 depending on what I wanted or what they could afford. I was honestly not even expecting a gift last night. But alas. I'm not going to mention what I have my eye on, for fear of jinxing it. But I'll explain the math to give you a hint: I've got $200, another $40 from my grandmother and I'll need to put up about $150 of my own stash to get it. And if I do this, it will be fabulous.

Or I could blow all $240 on flip flops, although I must admit the likelihood of that happening is pretty scarce.

As for actually being 23? I don't really enjoy it. 22 was harder to handle, I may have actually shed a tear over that one. But whatever. Another year. I think I'm officially past the point of caring about birthdays.

P.S. Professors should really take one's birthday into consideration before scheduling exams, quizzes, homework or papers. Just sayin'.

Tolerating Old Navy

While I was out yesterday shopping for Miss Riley my mother made me go to Old Navy. A store that normally gives me seizures. (kidding of course, but I do find it overwhelming.) Where she made me pick out a slew of these $5 shirts. Because I'm in dire need of new shirts. I'm not sure they'll last forever or anything, but that soft and at $5 a pop I'm sure they're worth it.

I also picked up these skimmers. We're thinking of Florida in May and I'm thinking these navy skimmers will be perfect for hanging out at the Destin Marina or heading down to the fishing pier, no?

And of course flip flops. My first of the season. When my Dad saw the skimmers he said, 'good...they're not flip flops.' Except I had 4 pairs of these babies down in the bottom of my bag. ;D

I wouldn't say that me and Old Navy are now BFFs or anything. But perhaps I can tolerate her in small doses from time to time.

Anyone seen any killer sales recently? I'm trying to restock for spring, but not break the bank.
