Easter 2009

My name is April. I'm 23. My Mom still gives me a basket full of candy and I like to dye Easter eggs.

Our baskets.

Jon enjoying a slim jim, I find them gross...but whatever.

The PAS kit was amazing. More colors than ever before. We did them this morning because I think I've got mono or something and lost the ability to stay awake past 9:30.

Ham. I did my research via a Herald-Leader article I read on Thursday while chomping down on a Chipotle burrito and decided bone in was the way to go.

And cupcakes. Which I thought turned out cute.

If I wasn't running short on time today I'd have piped on the grass and made nests for the jelly bean eggs with toasted coconut. Maybe next year. In the meantime, pretend these were elaborate.

Hmm, pictures of people? Yes, I seem to recall that photo subject. I'll have to try more of that sometime in the future.

Happy Easter

Oh right, so it's Easter. Look, Happy Easter to anyone I've failed to say it to yet. I'm horrible on that leaving a happy (insert holiday) stuff. I feel bad.
But life goes on...

So we went out car shopping yesterday for my mama a new vehicular. (Nope, no luck yet.) We didn't arrive home until 8:30 and had yet to purchase a ham, or the other fixings, and all we had for baskets was the candy (which I couponed...no lie) and things my mother let me buy for myself last week...which amounted to a bag of books from Half Price and a dress from Target. Jon had nothing yet. Yes, I believe this situation is called: screwed.

Unwilling to fight the battle that would have been Walmart last night, we instead told Jon to sleep in and we'd wake him with his basket when it was ready.

Yeah, no more Easter bunny crap, but I think my Mom will still make us baskets when we are old (her mother did).

This morning she bought Jon an iPod shuffle. It's perfect for him because he just needs something he can clip on his clothing without worry of dropping and breaking screens.

We put the $15 iTunes gift card it came with in the top of the basket with all of the candy, while we hid the actual shuffle underneath the easter grass. It was brilliant to see the feigned excitement over "just a gift card". Even more brilliant to watch Dad declare that he'd just have to burn the music onto a CD or use my PINK iPod. And most brilliant when he was told to "dig a little deeper".

It's watching a perfect ploy work out this way that makes me understand why parents have fun with holidays despite never receiving in return.
